Social Marketing Strategy: Timely Reminders

Where Sighted: Local Television News

Social Issue: Drownings

I was delighted to “witness” that a local TV news story coverage “did something” I’ve been advocating for.

When “an accident or harmful incident happens” include information on whether protective factors were performed. For example:

  • Home Burglaries: Whether there was an unlocked door or window.
  • Head Injury from a Bike Accident: Whether they were wearing a helmet.
  • Mass School Shooting: Whether had told others in advance.
  • COVID-19 Death: Whether had immunization.

An evening news story this week highlighted a drowning death of a paddle border in a local lake.

The newscast concluded with a statement that “the victim was not wearing a life vest.”

I sent an email to the station saying “Thank you for reporting this.  It makes a difference.”
