Social Issue: Emergency Preparedness

All Islanders should be prepared to be self-sufficient for two-weeks. Keep a two-week store of:
✔️ Food (non-perishable)
✔️ Water (1 gallon of water per person, per day)
✔️ Medications, medical equipment, and glasses/eye care
✔️ Flashlights
✔️ Extra batteries
✔️ NOAA alert radio
✔️ First aid kit
✔️ Tools
✔️ Fire extinguisher
✔️ Pet supplies
✔️ Personal hygiene supplies
✔️ Toilet paper
✔️ Warm clothes
✔️ Cash
Disasters can strike in the wintertime, so it is important to prepare alternative heating and cooking methods. Keep those supplies with your kit in safe location.
Pro Tip:
Your family will have many of these supplies on hand, but the key will be to gather these items in one place. The last thing anyone wants to do is hunt for things in the dark when disaster strikes. Keep your two-week emergency supply in plastic totes or a clean garbage can with a lid in an easy to access location.
