Social Issue: Understanding of Social Marketing
Social Marketing Strategy: Influential Messengers
Where Sighted: AI

This is my second blog/Social Marketing Sighting related to exploring AI’s understanding of Social Marketing, and my passion to ensure they get it right!

My question to ChatGPT this morning was: “What’s an example in the news today of a social marketing effort to change a behavior for good. Within 5 seconds I received this response:

“One excellent modern example-from today’s news-is how Zohran Mamdani’s campaign leveraged social marketing techniques to engage young voters in NYC.  Instead of relying on traditional TV ads or mailers, his team embraced everyday social media including videos and Instagram and X.”

I replied with:  “That’s about social media influencing. I asked about social marketing.”

AI replied in 5 seconds with: “The U.S Department of Health and Human Services under Secretary RFK Jr. has kicked off a $10-20 million public health campaign focused on “Make America Healthy Again” by avoiding ultra-processed foods.”

The amazing thing is it concluded with a statement:

“Why it qualifies as social marketing”

  • Behavioral objective
  • Consumer Insights

“This campaign aligns squarely with social marketing’s core: using structured evidence-based approaches and media reach to drive long-term behavior change in the service of societal well=being – in this case, healthier eating habits to curb chronic disease.”

How about that!!!!
