Please join us to learn about the work of iSMA and its affiliated associations at this year’s AGM. The iSMA AGM will focus on the many developments in promoting and spreading good practice in Social Marketing that have been delivered over the last year. The AGM will also set out iSMA’s plans for raising awareness about good practice in Social Marketing and supporting the work of the many social marketing associations, practitioners, associations, and networks around the world.

Given the global nature of the iSMA and its affiliated associations this year we are trialing a prerecorded AGM format. You will be able to view the AGM and our keynote presenter, Dr Nathaly Aya Pastrana, MSc, PhD from the 8th of May at a time and date of your choosing. You will also be able to submit written questions for a month after the AGM posting date. All questions received will be responded to within two days. The AGM recording is 40 Minutes in duration.

Presentation title:  Current Perspectives on social marketing in Latin America, Critical Reflections and a Way Forward

Keynote presentation description (English):

Complex global contexts call now more than ever for the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the World’s regions. Taking Latin America as a reference, this presentation will provide insights into current conceptualizations and applications of social marketing in this region, which sometimes differ from global understandings of the discipline. Subsequently, critical reflections on mainstreaming Latin American worldviews and practices into social marketing will be discussed. The presentation will conclude with an invitation to expand and question how behavior and social change are fostered to move towards more inclusive and equitable societies.

Los contextos globales complejos exigen ahora más que nunca el intercambio de conocimientos y experiencias entre las regiones del mundo. Tomando a América Latina como referencia, esta presentación brindará información sobre las conceptualizaciones y aplicaciones actuales del mercadeo social en esta región, que a veces difieren de la comprensión global de la disciplina. Posteriormente, se discutirán reflexiones críticas sobre la integración de las cosmovisiones y prácticas latinoamericanas en el mercadeo social. La presentación concluirá con una invitación a ampliar y cuestionar las formas en que se fomenta el cambio de comportamiento y social para avanzar hacia sociedades más inclusivas y equitativas.

Nathaly Aya Pastrana Bio:

Nathaly Aya Pastrana, MSc, PhD, is the Founding Director of IMEK Research Center in Marketing & Development in Colombia. IMEK is an independent NGO addressing issues related to health, education, and gender in the Global South using marketing and communication perspectives. Recent projects include addressing COVID-19 in Colombia, gender-based violence in Ecuador and Colombia, and health and social protection for women domestic workers in Peru. She is also a postdoctoral fellow at the CRONICAS Center of Excellence in Chronic Diseases in Peru, where she is involved in a research project focused on noncommunicable and neglected tropical diseases in India, Mozambique, Nepal, and Peru. Her experience across sectors includes collaborations with the private sector, academe, and not-for-profit organizations. She is also a co-founder and former Honorary President of the Latin American Social Marketing Association (LAMSO, 2017 – 2024), and was a member of the Communication Committee of the International Social Marketing Association (iSMA, 2014 – 2021). Nathaly is a Business Administrator from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Cali, Colombia. She obtained a master’s degree in Marketing and a PhD in Communication Sciences from University della Svizzera italiana in Switzerland, as well as a certificate in public health from the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+).
