“Trying to get through a crisis? Now you can call 988 for help.”
Umair Shah, secretary of the state Department of Health, said in the release that providing an easy-to-remember number is an important step in enhancing and expanding behavioral health crisis response and suicide prevention services in Washington.
Washington has introduced a three-digit number to aid in helping behavioral and mental health crisis situations. The new number isn’t replacing any crisis call centers in Washington. It gives a more memorable option than the prior 11-digit number 866-833-6546.
