Where Sighted: Local Newspaper

I sat down at my desk to check off my “to dos” for the day, and “sighed” when I noticed Weekly Blog: Social Marketing Sighting.  I hadn’t noticed one.

I then challenged myself to just pick up the local newspaper and see if, by chance, there was something in the news.  There was.

It was an article titled “It’s all about sun safety awareness for Mercer Island High School Junior.”  It reviewed several actions that this high school student has been taking to increase sunscreen in the summer sun, including posts on social media as well as speaking at special events.

At a local summer celebration event and Farmers Market she had a booth where she engaged in conversations with “passer-bys” and provided handouts on the importance of sunscreen and the “how-tos” for doing it right.

The article included an informative quote from the student’s mom explaining her daughter’s passion:

“Our family has a history of skin cancer and so sun safety awareness is a meaningful and relevant topic. It aligns well with Kate’s interest in science and our family values of service and community.” Mercer Island Reporter: August 20, 2025. p.8)
