Social Issue: Youth Gun Deaths
Social Marketing Strategy: Parents Protective Behaviors
I first learned about this program when I attended a Mothers Demand Action (MDA) group meeting in the city where I live. One of the efforts they support is one branded Be SMART.
I learned more about it on their Website

Grateful they focus on specific “behaviors” below.
Five Simple Actions Can Help Protect Kids
Everytown for Gun Safety launched the Be SMART campaign to take action to promote responsible gun ownership and reduce child gun deaths. The campaign focuses on education and awareness about child gun deaths and secure gun storage. Be SMART volunteers encourage parents and caretakers to “Be SMART” and take these five simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:
Secure all guns in home and vehicles
Model responsible behavior around buns
Ask about unsecured guns in other homes
Recognize the role of guns in suicide
Tell your peers to Be Smart
There are thousands Be SMART volunteers in your communities and neighborhoods that are delivering the Be SMART message across the country in all 50 states.
