On Thursday, Nov. 7, a news story on KING 5 TV in Seattle caught my social marketer’s attention with the headline “Take the NO Vape Pledge”. It told the story of a high school student in the state who started a pledge to stop and prevent vaping at her school after hearing about vaping-related illnesses across the country.

She created a logo and brought an idea to start a pledge to the high schools’ principal, who whole heartedly approved the project. Hundreds of students signed pledge cards during the school’s lunch period. The pledge asks students who already vape to pledge to quit. If they know of someone who vapes, they can pledge to help them or encourage them to stop. Finally, for those not vaping, they also commit not trying.
