The National Occupational Standards system in the UK is a government supported process for setting out what knowledge and skills professionals working in Social Marketing should be able to demonstrate. The standards can be used to develop job descriptions, assess candidates and agencies competence, inform the content of professional training and academic courses.
The first iteration of these standards was released in 2010 and the new version was published in 2020. The standards will be updated again in 2025.
This is a significant contribution to the professionalization of social marketing. These standards can be copied and customized for different country context and will we hope help to further develop social marketing practice.
